ABOUT RAO HTC
RAO Health Training Center (RAO HTC) is located just off the shores of Lake Victoria in Shirati, Tanzania. RAO HTC is a division of Rural AIDS Organization (RAO), that has been serving the greater lake zone area for 3 decades. We are committed to elevating the quality of life in Tanzania through offering health care services and health and community health training.
RAO HTC was founded by the late great Dr. Phinehas Ziki Makoyo. Medically trained in the United States with a dual-degree in Medical Doctorate (MD)/Ph.D in Pharmacology and Residency Training in General Surgery at Stanford University, Dr. Makoyo set out to build a program that would not just serve the local community but raise the quality of life for Tanzanians across the country.
RAO HTC is committed to using new technologies to deliver curriculum and to remain current and provide cutting edge trainings that will make RAO HTC students the most prepared and successful graduate students.

RAO HTC is fully-accredited and registered with the National Council of Technical Education (NACTE). Currently RAO HTC operates two programs in Clinical Medicine, which are the certificate program (NTA IV-V) and diploma program (NTA VI) . However, we expect to launch additional programs in Health Information Systems and Pharmacy and Laboratory Medicine by the academic year beginning in 2023.
Our students benefit from access to or facilities at RAO Hospital and the newly built RAO Clinical Laboratory. We have a state-of-the-art computer laboratory and a world-class medical library.
Many students choose to study at RAO HTC because of our reputation for high quality academics and the rigor of our programs. We prepare students for demanding careers in healthcare or further medical education. Our graduates go on to practice as Clinical Officers (COs), community health careers, or further medication education in Doctor of Medicine (MD) or MBBS. We know our students are very capable when they arrive at RAO HTC, our programs help to mature the students from merely retaining knowledge to learning to think critically about knowledge and to synthesize knowledge. Our goal is for each graduate to be able to apply and draw conclusions based on knowledge they have obtained in the curriculum. We strive to go further than other programs.
